Description

Homemade Caramel

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized saucepan, heat the granulated sugar over medium-high heat, stirring continuously with a wooden spoon or heat-resistant spatula until it melts and turns into a smooth, amber-colored liquid.
  2. Once the sugar is completely melted, add the unsalted butter and stir until it’s fully incorporated. Be cautious as the mixture will bubble.
  3. Slowly pour in the heavy cream while continuously stirring. The mixture will bubble again, so be careful.
  4. Allow the caramel to boil for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove the saucepan from heat.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, ensuring they are well combined.
  6. Let the caramel cool for a few minutes before transferring it to a heat-resistant container or jar for storage.

Notes

Be cautious when working with hot caramel, as it can cause severe burns. Always use a heat-resistant utensil and handle with care. This caramel can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. To reheat, gently warm it in the microwave or on the stovetop, stirring until smooth.
