- 1 lb ground beef
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 4 hamburger buns
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 lb mushrooms, sliced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- Fresh thyme leaves for garnish (optional)
- Lettuce, tomato, and condiments of choice for topping
Instructions
- Preheat the grill or stovetop grill pan over medium-high heat.
- Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape into burger patties. Season with salt and black pepper.
- Grill the burger patties for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium doneness. Place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking.
- While the burgers are cooking, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook until they release their moisture and become golden brown.
- Add the sliced onions and minced garlic to the mushrooms. Cook until the onions are soft and translucent.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce and soy sauce, letting the flavors meld for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.
- Toast the hamburger buns on the grill for about 1-2 minutes or until lightly browned.
- Assemble the burgers: Place a grilled patty with melted Swiss cheese on the bottom half of each bun. Top with a generous spoonful of the mushroom and onion mixture.
- Add lettuce, tomato slices, and condiments of choice.
- Garnish with fresh thyme leaves if desired.
- Cap each burger with the remaining bun halves and secure with toothpicks if needed.
