Description

This Chinese Beef and Broccoli stir-fry is a quick and delicious homemade version of your favorite takeout dish. Tender beef slices, crisp broccoli, and a savory garlic-ginger sauce come together in under 30 minutes—perfect for busy weeknights or meal prep!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Beef and Broccoli:

  • 1 lb flank or sirloin steak, thinly sliced against the grain

  • 4 cups broccoli florets

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or sesame oil for extra flavor)

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated

For the Sauce:

  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)

  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce

  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

  • ¼ cup beef broth or water

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch + 2 tablespoons water (slurry)

Instructions

  • Slice the beef thinly against the grain and set aside.

  • Whisk the sauce ingredients in a bowl until smooth.

  • Blanch the broccoli in boiling water for 1–2 minutes, then drain.

  • Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Sear the beef for 2–3 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.

  • Add garlic and ginger to the pan with remaining oil. Sauté for 30 seconds.

  • Return beef and broccoli to the pan. Pour in the sauce and stir well. Cook for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens.

  • Serve hot over steamed rice and garnish with sesame seeds or scallions if desired.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

  • Reheat gently with a splash of water to loosen the sauce.

  • Add vegetables like mushrooms or bell peppers for variety.

  • Substitute tofu or chicken for beef to customize the dish.
