Today I do not have any recipe to share with you, but a very fun experience that I had last week with my friend Teri at Duff’s Cakemix…and I want to share it with you before I go on vacation
I must admit that I have only seen Ace of Cakes a couple of times and found that all the cake decoration was very nice, but somehow “out of reality”, at least my reality…with this said, Cakemix gave me the opportunity to do something that indeed was “out of my reality” and it was FUN!
The concept of this place is amazing…you can play by decorating cakes or cupcakes. You choose the size of your cake, the cake flavor and the filling and then the material you would like for the cake decoration (buttercream or fondant). They have all the tools necessary for making your own cake decoration come true. The staff was helpful and whenever we needed help or had some questions, they were right there. It was so enjoyable to put my imagination to work and be free to make whatever I wanedt with the cake and the tools that were available in the store.
I chose fondant since I had never “played” with it and it was an absolutely cool experience. We spent 2 hours and only rushed out because our husbands were waiting for us at the restaurant for dinner…next time I will give myself at least 3 hours. I still had lots of fondant to play with and I am sure I would have liked to have more done.
Teri made a cake decorated with baseball theme for her son who is a Yankee fan, and I made the flower one. We left the place with two beautiful cakes and big smiles in our faces.
I took the cake to my sister’s the next day and we all enjoyed the cake, which was very good, light and fluffy. Oh! I picked the lemon poppy seed with vanilla buttercream.
Now that I had some experience with fondant, I will try to make it at home with the “tools” that I already have…
I hope you all enjoyed this post. As you read this post I am far away from home…and will tell you all about it when I come back.
Thank you for stopping by Simple Recipes and have a great week!
