Hi! My name is Juliana, I was born in Taipei, Taiwan and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, and now I live in South Bay area, California. I attended the University of São Paulo majoring in Pharmaceutical Sciences specializing in Biochemistry and acquired a PharmD degree. I currently hold a faculty position in a local university. My professional interests include understanding the mechanism behind the cardiovascular disease and the prevention of this disease, especially in women.
My other passion is cooking and baking. I grew up following my mom and later the helper that we had when living in Brazil. I am a mother to a boy, Dennis (sorry Dennis, you will always be a boy to me), correction a grown man, therefore it is only Stan, my husband and I in our home. Stan is my biggest fan, but do not take me wrong, he is too my best food critic.
I love testing different recipes and making lots and lots of changes to them, real changes…fortunately my kitchen experiments are far more successful than the lab ones, where not all the experiments turn into publications. As for the kitchen ones, I always (most of the time) end up with enjoyable dishes and treats.
Most of my recipes use very common ingredients, they are basically from Costco, Trader Joe’s, Sprouts and the local Asian grocery stores. Yes, you might find it strange that a household of two people buy things at Costco…yes, we do and believe me, very often. A common ingredient for me might not be so common for you, this because my background embraces many cultures and my recipes are usually a blend of numerous ethnicities. So, please forgive me if my usual stuff in the kitchen is not your usual stuff… Well, the advantage of this combination is that you can consider my cooking and baking as “fusion”…which happens to be so trendy nowadays.
In spite of the “fusion” word that many times can be very intimidating, my cooking and baking is far away from fancy. Like me, most of the recipes that I feature very simple recipes…however, once in a while I indulge myself and the ones around me with special and more elaborated ones.
I love plants and flowers and always find time to take care of my collection of greens in spite of most of them living in a contained environment. As you can see, I love scrapbooking, there is a sign of it in all of my posts. Photography just came along and it has been a very challenging part of this since I do not have any previous training in this area. I love travelling and I am so lucky to be able to do it quite often, especially with my husband.
I hope you enjoy this site as much as I enjoy sharing the recipes and peeks of my life with you.
If you have any question please feel free to contact me at juliana[@]simplerecipes[dot]me, I’ll be more than happy to get back to you.
One more thing, since English is not my first language, please forgive me if you encounter wrong grammar and/or misspelling, I will try my best and promise to do better.
